Club Chamionship - 2021 Update

Hi All

We recognise that this has been an extraordinary year and that many of our club traditions have been placed on hold or postponed. In light of the 'roadmap out of lockdown' published by the government, the committee have been discussing options for club events and how we could still hold an adapted version of our club championship. As such, based on the assumption that many races will be held in the latter part of this year, we propose to run a shortened version of our club championship as follows:

Qualifying races Any non-virtual event of the following distances, run between 1st April - 31st October 2021:

  • 5km (including parkruns)

  • 10km

  • Half Marathon

  • Marathon

In addition we will be organising a ‘Magic Mile’ event, and also the traditional season-ending Jules Jog in October (dates TBC).

In order to qualify to compete in the club championship you must complete 4 out of the 6 events listed above.

However, just to make things a bit more interesting, you will need to nominate your result as being your championship entry within 7 days of the event, and once submitted you can’t change your nominated event should you happen to run a faster time over the same distance at a later date. So you have to decide if your run was fast enough or not, and whether you should submit it or try again at another event.

The reasoning behind agreeing distances as opposed to specific races is that we know many of you will have deferrals from races cancelled during lockdown. Additionally we want to give members the option to choose the races they feel comfortable competing in whilst we continue to adjust back to 'normal' life.

We still have a few details to finalise, but we thought it best to give you all a heads-up about this straight away, and we will publish further details once we have everything updated and ready to go.

Regards

David
