London Marathon Ballot

Members of Datchet Dashers can secure a place in the London Marathon (LM) in many ways. Like all others, Dashers can gain a place through the official public ballot, by running for a charity or by
securing a ‘good for age’ entry.
Each year the club is allocated a handful of LM entries by virtue of our affiliation to England Athletics (EA) and our involvement in the LM Lucozade Drink Station. Dashers who meet the criteria below can
gain access to the club ballots for these places.
Criteria for entering the club ballots for both EA-affiliated and Lucozade Drink Station places. You must

  1. Be a current first claim member of Datchet Dashers.

  2. Have completed at least four club championship events in the 12 months prior to the ballot.

  3. Have volunteered in advance (not on the day) at one of the club’s organised race events, or have supported with training, in the 12 months prior to the ballot

  4. Have tail-run on a Thursday evening training run at least once in the 12 months prior to the ballot (for slower runners this is at the discretion of the club committee).

  5. Have entered the latest official public LM ballot and have been unsuccessful.

  6. Have not won a place in the preceding year's club ballots.

Specific additional criteria must also be fulfilled:
EA-affiliated places

Each year the club is allocated EA-affiliated LM places dependent on the number of individual EA affiliated club members. Any member wanting to enter the club ballot for EA-affiliated places MUST additionally be EA-affiliated through the club.
Lucozade Drink Station places

These places are kindly offered to us due to our volunteering at the Lucozade Drink Station, so to be eligible for this club ballot you must additionally have worked on the Lucozade Drink Station at the
preceding London Marathon.

If there are fewer entrants for either club ballot (EA-affiliated places ballot and Lucozade Drink Station ballot) than available places, the surplus places will be transferred to the other club ballot. If there are
still surplus places, entrance to a further ballot for such surplus places will be on criteria to be determined by the club committee (one or more of the criteria listed at 2 to 6 above will be relaxed or removed).

An email and Facebook notice will go out to club members when the time to enter the club ballots approaches. For an April LM, the club ballots normally take place in the preceding December. Please note, if successful in either ballot you will still need to pay for your entry - the ballot system only guarantees you a place.
