Congratulations to Jon Elliott, Alex Miller and Chris Bradfield who won the Henley triathlon relay this morning. Jon was 6th fastest in the pool, Alex fourth fastest on the bike, and then Chris anchored them home running the 5k over 3 minutes faster than anybody else in the field in 16:47, giving them a near 2 minute win in 1:13:27. Well done guys.
Meantime, Zoe Smart and Adrian Haines were doing the whole lot themselves. Adrian finished 69th in 1:28:04, whilst Zoe finishing an excellent 38th in 1:37:56.
Fairly nice conditions quickly descended into numbing wet conditions that proved difficult for many. Steve Fell followed-up his 4th place in last year’s sprint distance event with an excellent 3rd place this year, moving from 30th after the swim to 5th at the end of the bike.

Conditions for the Olympic distance proved tougher, with rain and a cold wind making the bike particularly chilling! Former Dashers Doug and Kate Galbraith did the race while over from Australia… nothing like English weather to remind you of the UK, eh?
Jon Elliott also competed, finishing in about 2h 37m but is currently not listed in the results.
Jeremy Allsup actually started with a much later wave owing to a bike malfunction, but his chip recorded as though he had started on time, so knock 25 mins off the swim and finish times.

Tom and Elaine completed their first Olympic distance triathlon at Padstow, a tough triathlon with a sea swim and an off-road run so more the achievement for them both.

On a perfect day for it I finished the London Triathlon yesterday. For my first Olympic distance tri I’m happy with finish time, but sadly a painful and unshakable stitch 1K into the run slowed my run down to a jog and prevented me from going sub 2:30. We’ll see if I can make it at Dorney later this month.

Huge congratulations to Jon Elliott who officially became an Ironman this weekend, completing the Zurich race in 14:24:30. That’s a fabulous achievement and one of which he should be rightly proud. Well done Jon

Paul and Barbara report back from France:
A showery Saturday evening in Charente-Maritime didn’t put off nearly 500 runners who almost got a whole race without rain, only the later finishers got wet while running the rest of us got wet eating cake and sugar cubes. We had to wait for the prize giving as Philip upset Triathlon La Rochelle’s dominance of the children’s groups.

Paul and Bee report:
A couple of actual Dashers swapped the rats of the Thames for the jellyfish of Beaulieu. The location and routes on a warm summer Sunday morning were superb, we would highly recommend this venue. The organisers timed the start so that we would have to do the return leg of the swim into the current/tide. The results were split into men and women so the overall places are gender based only.

The Masons report back from an international venture:
This was an interesting experience for all of us, especially for Philip as he can’t speak a word of French, making the briefing fairly redundant. A 750m pool swim, not normally attempted here, but done with ease by the people of Lille.
